REMEMBRANCE DAY EVENTS

November is upon us and with it comes the time of Remembrance, for all those who fought for our freedom. There are several Remembrance Day activities that we participate every year.

POPPY SALES

This coming week, we have Poppy Sales! Similar to tagging, cadets will be stationed at various locations around Burlington, in groups with cadets from other elements, gathering donations for the Burlington Legion. There are several shifts available, but you must sign up for 2. Cadets must show up at the Burlington Legion before their shift is scheduled to start. Dress for the weather, so bring your parka, hat, and gloves too.

Thursday: 5-9

Friday: 5-9

Saturday AM: 9-12

Saturday PM: 1-5

REMEMBRANCE DAY VIGIL AND PARADE

On November 10, 715 Air cadets, along with Sea and Army cadets, will be taking post at the Cenotaph at City Hall from Sunset on November 10th, until the end of the Remembrance Day parade the following day. It will be done in shifts, so likely every cadet will get a chance to take post at the Cenotaph (supervised by officers). Cadets will be meeting at 5:00pm at Knox Presbyterian Church to drop off kit. Shortly afterwards, cadets will then be marching to Burlington City Hall for the Sunset Ceremony which is set to begin at 5:45. Sleeping accommodations are at Knox Presbyterian Church but cadets will need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. Breakfast will be provided the next morning and plenty of snacks the night before. But dinner will not be provided on November 10th, so please show up in your full uniform fed, and ready to go.

If you cannot make the parade on Monday, November 11th due to academic commitments, that is completely okay, and for that reason, the parade is not mandatory, but highly encouraged. You can attend the vigil without having to attend the parade, or vice versa, depending on your schedule.

When: 5:00 pm, November 10th, pick up time TBA

Where: Knox Presbyterian Church

REMEMBRANCE DAY DINNER SERVICE

Every year on the evening of Remembrance Day, a small number of cadets from each element attend the Legion Remembrance Day Dinner to assist the Legion in the set up and tear down of the event. We are looking for 2 senior and 2 junior cadets to be at the Burlington Legion from approximately 5-8:30pm on November 11. Dress is C1s, and cadets should be prepared to stay in touch with their driver throughout the evening as the end time is subject to change. This is an incredible opportunity and spots are limited, so sign up quick!
